How to play Klondike Solitaire
Open Klondike Solitaire, check the instructions and begin a round. Build four suit foundations from ace to king. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls. Treat the first round as a chance to learn the controls. Use the example below to understand a decision.
One deck; draw-one or draw-three stock; waste recycling. Free solo play, no wagering.
A careful first round
Before your first action, say what you are trying to achieve. Then compare the result with the goal. Notice the feedback after each input.
Your goal
Build four suit foundations from ace to king. Keep that objective in view throughout the round. Review the board or playing area as it changes.
Step by step
- Build down in alternating colours; kings fill empty columns. Valid ordered runs move together.
- Select a face-up card and then the destination pile or Empty slot.
- Use foundations where available; full Spider or Scorpion runs clear automatically.
- Undo reverses a choice. New deal shuffles again.
Controls
Click or tap cards and piles. Wide tableaus scroll inside the game; use Undo, Hint and New deal where shown. Use the control method described here for this activity. Look at the feedback after the action.
A useful example
A red 6 fits a black 7, not another red 7. Your next round may have a different position, so inspect it before acting. Verify the rule before continuing.
Watch out for this
Random deals are not guaranteed solvable. A hint is a legal move, not a winning strategy. Take a moment to reassess the position before continuing. Keep the stated aim separate from side details such as animation or appearance. Progress is measured by the game’s own completion or scoring rules.
