How to play Dominoes

Choose a round of Dominoes and settle into its rules. Empty your hand, or hold fewer pips when both players are blocked. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions. Keep the instructions close while learning this activity. Look at what changes after your first action.

Double-six draw dominoes, local two players with shared-screen visible hands.

Build a steady rhythm

Take enough time to read a new position. If a game has a timer, learn its controls first rather than searching for them during the round. Keep the objective visible.

Your goal

Empty your hand, or hold fewer pips when both players are blocked. Read that aim before choosing your first action. Take a moment to understand the current position.

Step by step

  1. Play a tile matching either open chain end.
  2. Choose which end to use.
  3. Draw only when no tile fits.
  4. Pass only with no legal tile and an empty stock.

Controls

Click or tap a piece and destination; use the turn indicator and legal-move feedback. On a smaller screen, keep the active part of the board within view. Make sure you are interacting with the game rather than the surrounding page.

A useful example

An open 4 accepts 4–2, leaving 2 open. Your next round may have a different position, so inspect it before acting. Read the matching step again.

Watch out for this

You cannot ignore a legal match to draw. Compare the situation with the worked example. After a move, check what changed. Decide which rule explains the new state before acting again.
